Technology & Open Government
The rise of the Internet allows unprecedented opportunities for government transparency. We should always be looking for how we can put more information online and improve the accessibility of government websites.
The collaborative, open source culture of the web also provides new ways for citizens to participate. Government doesn’t need to analyze and present the data on its own — just make it available and let others take initiative.
This is already being done nationally at data.gov and at the state level in Michigan, Utah, and California. Better public data is a resource that creative tech entrepreneurs can use to build new companies and provide valuable services.
