Thank you

With my campaign for HD44 coming to an end, I must thank all of you. A great many of you invested your time and your treasury into this campaign, and I am deeply grateful. This has been a grassroots campaign from the beginning, and grassroots campaigns don’t get anywhere without people just like you, supporting the vision and doing everything you can to aid the cause. Over the course of the campaign, our expenses for every vote we earned were less than half of our competitors. That is a testament to the power of community, your volunteer hours and word of mouth.

I can’t list everyone here who lent a helping hand or supported us financially, but I must acknowledge two people who sunk their hearts and souls into this effort. Gene Perry, a tireless volunteer in many capacities and unsung hero of grassroots efforts across Norman, volunteered his spare time and considerable talents as my campaign manager over the last eight months. Without his total commitment, this would have been nearly impossible. Gene doesn’t get recognized enough for the work he does for this community, but you will always find him up to something good. Also Judie Matthews, my partner, invested every bit of her energy into supporting the campaign. She was there 100 hours a week, as advisor, assistant, and confidant, every step of the way. Without her commitment to this effort, I couldn’t have followed through.

While we did not win this campaign, we pushed some important ideas to the top of the conversation. I encourage you to continue to volunteer with and support the organizations that are advocating for the values we share.

The work goes on tonight (July 29), where you can join me at Dreamer Concepts Studio and Foundation, 324 E Main St. in Norman, for an event hosted by the Oklahoma Sierra Club. Starting at 7pm, the event features musical guest “Sharktooth,” local foods by Native Roots Market, and local drink from Coach’s Brewhouse. There will also be a screening of a short but powerful documentary,  ”In the Air We Breathe,” about some serious health and environmental problems being caused by coal ash in Bokoshe, Oklahoma.

I hope to see you tonight or in the future as we continue our efforts to protect and improve this community.

Getting informed

All too often campaigning means making vague statements so you never know where a candidate really stands.  But this election should be about informed choices, not who can buy the most name recognition.  That’s why we put up complete and unedited video of the most recent candidate forum.  You can see Isaiah and all of the other candidates for House District 44 responding to substantive questions about their backgrounds and the issues.

You can access it in a few different ways:

  1. Watch the complete and unedited video with all four candidates.
  2. Watch a shorter video with only Isaiah’s responses.
  3. Download an audio podcast of the complete forum.

Please take some time to check it out and share it widely!

Registration Deadline / HD44 Online Poll / Candidate Forum

Several important campaign deadlines and events are coming soon:

House District 44 is a heavily Democratic district, so the most important vote in this race will be the July 27 primary. You must be registered as a Democrat in Norman to vote in the primary, and the registration deadline is this week. Friday is the last day to register in person at a county election board, and mailed applications must be postmarked no later than Monday. Let me know if you need a registration form, or you can download it here.

The Cleveland County Democratic Party is running an online poll for the HD44 candidates. Please go to http://ccdp.homestead.com/ and vote now! It will take just a few seconds and is a great way to make a statement about our campaign’s support in the community.

All of the HD44 candidates will be participating in the Forum for Democratic Action tomorrow (Thursday, May 27), 6:30pm at On The Border [map]. If you want to carpool with us to the event, we will leave at 6pm from the parking lot just north of The Earth Deli on Campus Corner.

Thanks for your support!

Can you walk your neighborhood?

Can you join me to knock doors this weekend?

The number one priority of my campaign for Oklahoma’s House District 44 is speaking directly with voters. In a smaller state house race, we don’t need slick ads to get the word out. We can do it one door at a time.

I hope you can join me at noon this Saturday, March 27 at 827 W Comanche. We will meet with volunteers for a quick training session and then head out to knock doors.

Please bring a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes. For more information, call me at (405) 396-6470. If you can’t make it tomorrow but want to help out any other time, please give me a call.

Hitting the streets

I need your help!

My campaign for House District 44 is relying on grassroots energy, not money or political connections. Volunteers can make a big difference, especially in a smaller State House race.  But that depends on your efforts to help us spread the word.

What open government really means

Earlier this week, the Oklahoma House defeated a bill to create a central website where citizens can access government data.  Unfortunately in the debate over this proposal for more open government, legislators demonstrated a shocking lack of understanding about what it would do.
